In 2010, the National Physical Activity (PA) Plan was released and included recommended strategies for eight sectors: public health; health care, education; transportation, land use/community design; parks, recreation, fitness and sports; business and industry; volunteer and non-profit organizations; and mass media. Prior to release of the National Plan, most states already had statewide obesity-related plans, some of which included elements similar to the National PA Plan. Both the National and state PA plans incorporate policy strategies to increase physical activity. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss and compare these strategies at the National and state level. Opportunities exist for assisting states with revision of plans and matching goals and strategies to sectors that align with the National PA plan.
