How to become involved

How do you become involved?
As a NSPAPPH member, NSPAPPH’s committees – Conference Planning and Coordination, Professional Development & Training, Governance, Communications, Nominations, Advocacy, and Products, Programs and Services — and two subcommittees-Membership and Website-provide opportunity to become further involved with members of common interests.

Communications Committee The Communications Committee shall coordinate all marketing and public communication activities of the Society.
Conference Planning & Coordination Committee The Conference Planning and Coordination Committee shall plan and coordinate business meetings and conferences to support the mission, purpose and functions of the Society. The chair of the committee shall be responsible, with assistance from the committee, to consult as appropriate with the Professional Development & Training Committee in planning the annual meeting and strategic planning retreat to meet the needs of the members.
Governance Committee The Governance Committee shall ensure the use of the by-laws and operating guidelines by the Society. The committee will review the by-laws and operating guidelines, at least annually, for necessary revisions and bring any suggested changes to the Society for approval.
Membership Committee The Membership Committee shall ensure contact, orientation, and engagement of Society members. This committee will work to increase membership and member attendance at Society annual meeting and on committees.
Nominations Committee The Nominations Committee shall prepare a slate of candidates for officers and members at large for each office to be filled per Articles V, VII, VIII, and IX. Written consent to serve, if elected, must be received by the committee. The chair of the committee shall be responsible, with assistance from the committee, for tabulating the ballots and announcing the results of the election at the annual meeting.
Policy Committee The Policy Committee shall work to organize, develop and promote efforts to engage and educate key decision makers and advocates regarding policy issues supporting the mission, purpose and functions of the Society.
Products, Programs, & Services Committee The Products, Programs, & Services Committee shall work to ensure Society members are kept abreast of evidence based and promising practice interventions as well as key scientific developments relevant to physical activity and public health practice.
Professional Development & Training Committee The Professional Development & Training Committee shall work from the Essentials for Public Health Physical Activity Practitioners Core Competencies document in order to develop, implement, and evaluate appropriate training opportunities to advance the field of physical activity in public health. The chair of the committee shall be responsible, with assistance from the committee, to consult as appropriate with the Conference Planning Committee in planning the annual meeting and strategic planning retreat to meet the needs of the members, for disseminating information about upcoming trainings; organizing and evaluating trainings; revising the core competencies as needed; and conducting an assessment of member needs and activities on alternate years.
Website Committee The Web site Committee shall review the content and establish policies for the NSPAPPH Web site and its member areas. The committee will also generate or help generate strategies for promotion of the Society’s purpose through the Web site.Assessment of member resources will be part of the committee. This committee will be made up of representation of one member from each standing committee.
